Join CoWork Oberlin as we welcome Cathie Leimbach from Agon Leadership. Cathie will introduce you to how to identify what your self-leadership style is, why it's important, and how you can use this awareness to be a more effective leader, supervisor, and mentor.
Only one-third of employees are actively engaged at work. It is estimated that our workforce is only productive for 30% of the work day. Yet, we spend a great deal of our time working. Our life satisfaction depends on us making a difference – doing something meaningful with our lives. The best way we can increase our quality of life is to be effective self-leaders, to be intentional about leading and govern ourselves to reach our potential and achieve our definition of success.
Most employees are hired for their education, experience, and skills in the technical aspects of the job. However, employees are most often fired for the lack of soft skills such as arriving on time for work, focusing on workplace priorities, having a positive attitude, and getting along well with other people. If we can’t lead ourselves in these areas, we aren’t likely to have the opportunity to work for productive, forward-thinking, healthy companies. If we aren’t effective self-leaders, employers don’t want the frustration of trying to manage us. Family and community members may even limit their time with us and it may be difficult for us to build good friendships. When we aren’t effective self-leaders, we hold ourselves back from rewarding and fulfilling workplace and personal life experiences.
